There is a fascinating history to the Cambodia gambling halls that reside just across the border from neighboring Thailand, where casino wagering is banned. Eight casinos are anchored in a generally small location in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia gambling halls is in a perfect destination, a three to 4 hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the two biggest betting centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a thriving business with Thai workers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The amazing capital accrued from the gambling dens ranges from seven and a half million dollars to more than 12.5 million dollars, and there are a number of limitations requirements for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is required to be largely Thai; although, investment sources are ambiguous. The borders are ceremoniously open from 09:00 to 17:00, and though visas are apparently required to pass, there are means around this, as is correct of most border crossings.
The initial Cambodia gambling halls opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving only a single casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored ship casino, contains 150 slots and sixty gaming tables. The Naga casino never closes with 42 tables of mini-baccarat banque, four tables of twenty-one, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The 1st gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown soon opened. A total of one hundred and fifty one armed bandits and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slots and sixty eight tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features three hundred slots and seventy tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machines and 96 table games, including 87 baccarat (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slot machines and sixty six of the common table games, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the 8 casinos in Poipet, again in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machines and 97 casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an international vacation and hotel complex that contains many luxuries on top of the casino, which offers ten thousand square feet of 130 slot machines and eighty eight gaming tables.
